About the Forget-Me-Not
The Alaska state flower. Legend says a knight and his lady were walking by a river when he picked these flowers, fell in, and threw them to her shouting forget me not before drowning. Henry IV adopted them as his emblem during his exile in 1398. They are among the few truly blue flowers in nature. They self-seed prolifically, appearing year after year. Their color comes from delphinidin, an anthocyanin pigment. They are in the borage family, related to comfrey and borage. Over 200 species in the genus Myosotis. They prefer moist, shady conditions. They have been symbols of faithful love in German folklore for centuries.
