About the Aconite (Winter)

One of the very first flowers to bloom, often appearing through snow in January. It forms carpets of bright yellow cup-shaped flowers. All parts are toxic if ingested. The flowers only open in sunshine. It naturalizes freely in woodland settings. It grows from small tubers. It is related to buttercups. It attracts early-emerging bees. It grows 5-10 cm tall. It is one of the best bulbs for naturalizing under trees. It can take several years to establish from tubers.
