About the Phlox
One of the most fragrant summer perennials. Their name comes from Greek for flame, describing their bright colors. Over 60 species. Tall garden phlox produces large flower heads that attract butterflies and hummingbirds. Creeping phlox creates carpets of color in spring. Woodland phlox thrives in shade. They are native exclusively to North America. They are long-lived perennials. They make excellent cut flowers with a sweet clove-like fragrance. They are susceptible to powdery mildew in humid conditions. They are deer resistant.
