About the Lotus
Sacred in Buddhism and Hinduism - symbolizes purity rising from murky waters. The seed pods can remain viable for over 1,000 years - the oldest successfully germinated lotus seed was 1,300 years old. Their leaves are self-cleaning due to nanoscale bumps (the lotus effect), inspiring water-repellent coatings and paints. They can regulate their temperature, maintaining flowers at 30-35 degrees C even in cooler air, like warm-blooded animals. Every part is edible. The lotus motif appears in Egyptian, Indian, Chinese, and Japanese art spanning thousands of years.
