Peony
About the Peony
The state flower of Indiana and the national flower of China, where they have been cultivated for 2,000 years. Named after Paeon, the physician to the gods in Greek mythology. Some varieties can live over 100 years. Individual plants can produce up to 50 flowers per season. They do not like being moved - established plants resent transplantation. They attract ants with nectar, which in turn protect the flower buds from other insects. Tree peonies can reach 2 meters. In Chinese culture, they symbolize wealth, honor, and beauty.
