About the Lily of the Valley

All parts are highly toxic, containing cardiac glycosides similar to foxglove. Despite this, it has been a beloved garden plant and wedding flower for centuries. It is the national flower of Finland. Grace Kelly included it in her wedding bouquet. It was Christian Diors lucky flower and is heavily featured in Dior fragrances. A single plant can spread to form colonies meters wide through underground rhizomes. The bell-shaped flowers produce a sweet, distinctive fragrance. They can live for decades. They thrive in deep shade where few other flowers will grow. They are in the asparagus family.
