About the Bluebell

The common bluebell, Hyacinthoides non-scripta, carpets ancient woodlands in spring. Britain holds around half of the world population. It is protected in the UK, where digging up wild bulbs for sale is illegal. Its sticky sap was once used as glue for bookbinding and for fixing feathers to arrows. Hybridization with the Spanish bluebell threatens native populations. All parts are poisonous.
