Rose (David Austin)
About the Rose (David Austin)
Created by David Austin starting in the 1950s by crossing old garden roses with modern hybrid teas. They combine the fragrance and charm of old roses with the repeat blooming and color range of modern varieties. Over 240 cultivars introduced. The most popular is Gertrude Jekyll, named after the famous garden designer. They cost $5-8 million and 15 years to develop each new variety. The Juliet rose cost $5 million to develop. They are among the most fragrant roses available. They have revived interest in garden roses worldwide.
