Rose (Climbing)
About the Rose (Climbing)
Climbing roses do not actually climb - they have long canes that need support. They can cover walls, fences, and pergolas, reaching 6+ meters. Some climbers bloom once in spectacular profusion; others repeat bloom throughout the season. The oldest living climbing rose is believed to be 1,000+ years old at Hildesheim Cathedral. New Dawn was the first plant to receive a US patent. They are heavy feeders needing rich soil. Pruning is different from bush roses - they flower best on horizontal canes. Over 10,000 climbing varieties exist.
