Dahlia (Bishop)
About the Dahlia (Bishop)
The Bishop series features dark, almost black foliage that contrasts dramatically with vivid flower colors. Bishop of Llandaff is the most famous, with scarlet flowers and bronze-black leaves. It was bred in the 1920s and remains one of the most popular varieties. It grows 90-120 cm tall. It attracts butterflies and bees. It is a tuberous perennial. It was named after a Welsh bishop who was a keen gardener. It has won the RHS Award of Garden Merit. The dark foliage provides garden interest even when not in bloom.
