About the Titan Arum

Bears the largest unbranched flower spike in the world, which can exceed 3 m tall. Known as the corpse flower because it smells of rotting flesh to attract carrion beetles and flies. It blooms only once every several years and each bloom lasts just a day or two. The spike warms itself to spread the smell. It first bloomed in cultivation at Kew Gardens in 1889. It is native only to the rainforests of Sumatra.
