Nasturtium
About the Nasturtium
Every part is edible - leaves, flowers, buds, and seeds. The flowers have a peppery watercress-like flavor. The seeds can be pickled as a substitute for capers. They are extremely easy to grow from seed. They repel certain garden pests, making them excellent companion plants. Over 80 species. The leaves are rich in vitamin C. They attract aphids away from other plants (trap cropping). They climb or trail depending on variety. They thrive in poor soil - rich soil produces leaves at the expense of flowers. They are native to the Andes.
