About the Jasmine

Over 200 species of shrubs and vines. Jasmine tea is the most popular scented tea in China, where it has been produced for over 700 years. It takes 4-6 hours for jasmine flowers to release their peak scent, which is why tea is scented at night. The scent is caused by benzyl acetate and other volatile compounds. Thailand, Indonesia, and Pakistan all have jasmine as their national flower. It releases its fragrance primarily at night (nocturnal emission) to attract moth pollinators. One acre can produce 5,000 pounds of flowers for perfumery.
